Illumination - is a manuscript in which the text is supplemented by the addition of decoration, such as decorated initials , borders and miniature illustrations . Codex - is a book in the format used for modern books, with separate pages normally bound together and given a cover. Manuscript - is any document that is written by hand, as opposed to being printed or reproduced in some other way. Diptych - any object with two flat plates attached at a hinge. Triptych - a work of art (usually a panel painting ) which is divided into three sections, or three carved panels which are hinged together and fold. Polyptych - generally refers to a painting (usually panel painting ) which is divided into four or more sections, or panels. Annunciation : when the angel told mary that she would conceive a child to be born the Son of God. Incarnation -literally means embodied in flesh , refers to the conception and birth of a sentient creature (generally a human) who is the material manifestation of an entity or force whose original nature is immaterial Etching - the process of using strong acid to cut into the unprotected parts of a metal surface to create a design in intaglio in the metal.
