Mitchell Community College2Catalog Description:This course provides a survey of fundamental biological principles for non-sciencemajors.Emphasis is placed on basic chemistry, cell biology, metabolism, genetics,evolution, ecology, diversity, and other related topics.Upon completion, studentsshould be able to demonstrate increased knowledge and better understanding ofbiology as it applies to everyday life.This course has been approved for transfer under theCAA and ICAA as a pre-major and/or elective course requirement.Learning Outcomes:Students will integrate and apply principles of scientific inquiry into fundamental natural(biological or physical) processes. Upon completion of this course, the student willintegrate and apply principles of scientific inquiry into fundamental natural processes(i.e. biological or physical).1. Relate the study of biology to different areas of life.2. Identify fundamental taxonomical principles.3. Connect basic principles of chemistry to living organisms and non-living matter.4. Compare the basic components of plant, animal, and bacterial cells.5. Relate the cell cycle to reproduction and distinguish mitosis from meiosis.6.
