Gender Inequality through the Lenses of History and Humanities Gender inequality is a situation that has occurred in this country ever since its' formation. Analyzing this phenomenon through different lenses can help us to gain a better perspective and understanding of the social issue. This paper will briefly consider gender equality through the lenses of history and the humanities. Through the Historical Lens Gender inequality has been a major issue in this country ever since it was founded. As McLaughlin et al. (2017) have noted, gender inequality "undercuts women's autonomy outside the home and reinforces economic dependence on men". Pressures caused by gender inequality often result in environments that are hostile to women, which prevent them from being able to rise to higher levels of responsibility, and if they are particularly oppressive, can result in illness and the eventual departure from the position.
