How close are we to reaching world peace, and what is preventing us fromreaching this goal?RationaleWorld peace has always been talked about, but we have not been able to achieve.Humans are always at war for different reasons. The reason why I have chosen thistopic is due to the recent events of the Islamic Sates with their attacks on CharlieHebdo shooting in early January 2015, and the November Paris attack. We are all thesame but we choose to differentiate ourselves for different reasons, hence decided tofind out what are the causes that trigger this difference .In addition, I will be seeing if weare close to reaching world peace.Introduction (What is World Peace?)World peace is the state where nations and its people live harmoniously with other in avoluntarily manner and or via an agreed governing system/rules without violence /warfare. “Can world peace be achieved?” In my view, everyone wants it but is hard to attain andsustain it, as there are multiple issues that hinder World Peace, like; PoliticalIdeologies, Culture, Religious belief Territorial Disputes and Globalizations and FreeTrades.
Primary Research Response Table 1In my survey, I asked if peace is achievable. 80% of the respondents said “Yes, but itwill not be anytime soon”. One respondent also said “The United Nations should notbow down to super powers like the US and other countries that manufacture weaponsand export. Instead, they should revamp the election process at the UN so thatcountries that are neutral and focus on peacekeeping activities (no vested interest) leadthe organisation.”Events that Trigger disorder Primary Research Response Table 2Based on my survey results, it was found that majority of the respondents believed“Differing Religious Beliefs” and “Territorial Disputes” are the major factors which lead toconflicts that destabilize World Peace. Below are detailed explanations on the factorsthat destabilize World Peace. Religious beliefsReligious belief is about following a religion. There are different types of religions in thisworld and there are different types of views, opinions, and perspectives in this world. Some believe that their religion is more superior to others, which can lead to disputes,
arguments and at times war too. According to the Huffington Post, in all the recordedwars of history (1,763 recorded wars) about less than 7 percent of wars are caused byreligious beliefs. This may not be a very big percentage, but that is almost 123 wars.Imagine, the amount of casualties that could have been prevented if people did not findreligion to become a trigger for war.
