What is an Organization
?
In order to understand organizational behavior, we must
first understand what an organization is. “An
organization is a group of people working together
under a defined structure for the purpose of achieving
stated goals through coordinated activities. These
activities require the use of human, material, and
financial resources. An organization must be able to obtain the necessary input resources (i.e.,
employees, materials/supplies, capital, etc.) from its environment and efficiently transform the
resources to outputs (i.e., goals).” (Borkowski, 2016)
What is Organizational Behavior?
“
Organizational behavior (OB) is the study of individual and group dynamics within an
organizational setting. The goals of Organizational Behavior are to explain, predict, and
influence behavior. Managers need to be able to explain why employees engage in some
behaviors rather than others, predict how employees will respond to various actions and
decisions, and influence how employees behave." (Borkowski, 2016)
