Stanislav Petrov was the first man to save the world by preventing nuclear war. In 1983, the planet came close to a nuclear holocaust. As such, the Soviet Union missile attack warning system had earlier own displayed the word Launch in the capital and red letters via a computer screen to the relevant officer on duty, Stanislav Petrov. It was a clear indication that a missile had been launched and was heading towards the Soviet Union. Initially, it was only one missile, but later the system reported that up to five missiles had been launched. Petrov was forced to make a decision on whether he would report the incoming American strike. Ethics requires that an individual be trustworthy; hence, Petrov's idea of reporting the issue would have made some sense. However, Petrov did not report the strike.
