Module 4 Project: Gas Laws and Breathing Ryland Alms 07/26/2020 Overview : The purpose of respiration is the exchange of gases. It requires an inhalation (breathing in) and exhalation (breathing out). The activity of respiration is dictated by the different gas laws. In Module 4 Project, you will explore gas laws in respiration. Introduction/Purpose: The purpose of this project is to understand how gas laws affect our daily lives. This will help us to use gas laws on a daily basis and create an understanding as to why they are important to us. This project also allows us to think about differences between gas laws and what gas law to implement in a problem. Chapter 8 - Role of Gas Laws and Breathing 1. Boyle’s Law. During Respiration, there is a gas exchange due to changes in Boyle’s Law. Watch this YouTube on Boyle's Law and Respiration (Time 1:56 minutes) and see website with Image of Lungs showing Boyle's Law and Respiration to answer the following questions: a) Write out the equation for Boyle’s Law and Explain what is Boyle’s Law (write this out in your own words as though you might be trying to explain it to a friend).
b) Using the image below, Explain how the variables of Boyle’s Law (pressure, volume and temperature) change during the process during Inhalation and during Exhalation . What roll does the Diaphragm have in this process? Module 4 Project- Gas Laws and Breathing Page 1
