Therany Dunnigan 07/18/11 Sociology The main ideas of chapter ten “Understanding Power in Social Life” by Michael Schwalbe were about power coming from social life (you can only get power if a group of people support your beliefs) and instilling needs in others to get power but still satisfying the people’s wants. Also controlling information that people receive, how resources are used in society and how and why laws and restrictions are made. I found this chapter to be really interesting I liked it a lot actually agreed a lot on his concepts of power and how it is perceived in our social world. Most people do gain power by a persuasion of a large group of individuals and instilling in them that the persuader has something or can do something for the people that they really want. Then again a lot of what we see and get to choose from is censored in government. We don’t see everything we don’t always hear the complete truth or the whole story in the media, only what they allow us to hear. In a sense that sets us up to make bias decisions based
