VOLUNTEER TRAINING AT NON-PROFIT EYE CLINIC2Training is the systematic process of changing the behavior, knowledge and motivation ofemployees or volunteers to improve the match between the individual’s current profile and therequirements of the job duties. The current training program at the Eye Clinic is in the process ofbeing redesigned and to ensure the best possible outcome, the current state of the trainingprogram needs to be evaluated.OrientationAn employee or volunteer orientation is the process of introducing new hires to their jobs,co-workers, responsibilities, and workplace (Smith, 2019). The Eye Clinic currently organizes anorientation program for new volunteers. The objectives of this program are to welcome theincumbent and introduce him with the colleagues and orient him about the clinic's vision. Whilethe current orientation program covers the basics, it is lacking in the areas of HIPAA, teachingabout the clinic’s mission, values, shareholders, policies etc.In-house trainingIn-house training is a training program for learning opportunities developed by theorganization in which they are used (Fleming, 2018). The Eye Clinic currently provides one in-house training program. This program is not strategically planned, but rather serves to get thenew volunteer started with the duties they are assigned to. The scope of this project has a senioremployee teach volunteers how to use medical equipment, as well as how to operate the phonesystem and enter patient information in the computer. The current training program lacks inconsistency and clarity.
