Why is understanding the health care system at the local level important to consider when planning an EBP implementation? Conduct research and solicit anecdotal evidence from your course preceptor that you will take into consideration for your own change project. Evidence-based practice (EBP) is important because it helps apply science to clinical practice and establishes reason for what and why we do the things we do. However, I’m sure as you all know from your own nursing experience, EBP is not a perfect science because one intervention may not necessarily be applicable to every single scenario that we encounter. It’s still good practice to understand the healthcare system at the local level when it comes to planning EBP implementation because it uses the best evidence available as determined by scientific methods according to the unique characteristics of local healthcare. My preceptors anecdotal take on it is that while EBP is certainly important and necessary, and it should be used as a basis for healthcare advancement, practice and understanding- there are many situations where it just doesn’t replace nursing judgment (common sense), or a person’s own autonomy in making their health choices.
