PGE 362 Production Engineering HWK 1-2 - Solution (2) You have inherited a well that was configured by an engineer from another university. This well is to be used now as a water injection well. You must decide if the well is configured correctly for the new service. Data: Packer Depth: 4000’ Packer Type: Tension packer. This is a simple packer where the tubing is pulled in tension in order to expand the elastomer. This packer has a shear pin in it that will fail and release the packer if tension exceeds a preset value. This packer is a retrievable type and is connected directly to the tubing, so it has no tubing seals. The slips on the packer support the force caused by the pressure above and below the packer. The shear pin is exposed to the force of the tubing pulled in tension to set the packer and caused by force changes in the tubing due to changes in temperature. BHT: 120 deg F at 4,000’ Proposed Injected Water Temperature: 80 deg F. Annulus Fluid: 8.5 lb/gal 2% KCl water with no surface pressure.
