The definition of Freedom is havingthe ability to act, change, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint. However,is that the message Beyonce is trying to send with her song ‘Freedom’? What does Beyoncereally mean by ‘Freedom’? Well Beyonce’s song ‘Freedom’ is actually the empowerment ofWoman and the Black Lives Matter movement. She is fighting for Black Lives and is trying toreally empower black women. This presentation will cover the meaning of ‘Freedom’, Beyonce’sstance on the movement, addressing the Super Bowl Critiques, and the civil unrest after GeorgeFloyd’s death.Body (main points)Paragraph 1:Explaining the lyrics of Freedom and how it’s empoweringWhat do the lyrics in ‘Freedom’ mean? The general idea of the song is to take back freedom andpower from the people who are oppressing African Americans. Beyonce is standing up andgiving black people- especially black women- a voice to speak with. Some poetic devices that wecan pick up on from her lyrics are repetition, imagery, hyperbole, and a lot of metaphors. Sheuses a lot of “I’ma walk, I’ma march, I’ma wade, I’ma riot” and “Freedom! Freedom!” Whichshows clear repetition to put emphasis that she is determined to take back her freedom. Forexample, the line“Tell the storm I’m new, I’ma walk, I’ma march on the regular, painting whiteflags blue”shows that she is confident and prepared to march towards freedom.Then the chorus of the song which is on screen at the moment demonstrates her strength- itshows that she is going to break the chains all by herself. Beyonce refuses to let her freedom rotin hell and her portrayal of her strength gives hope to other people to also stand up andbecome empowered. The poetic devices here are hyperbole because she is exaggerating, but it
