Surname 1Student's NameProfessor's NameCourse CodeDateDefinition of SexPart OneThe article by Greta Christina covers on what comprises of sex and what does notcount as sex. One of the definitions of sex, according to Christina, says, "Perhaps having sexwith someone is the conscious, consenting, mutually acknowledged pursuit of shared sexualpleasure" (Christina, 2006). The definition covers excellent components that can add up toform what sex is all about. It is, however, limited in its choice of words hence making itproblematic. The keywords from this definition are consenting, conscious, and mutualknowledge. The definition is far from reality because, for instance, when Christina found outthat his unfaithful boyfriend had had sex with another lady, she visited Gene, where theyengaged in what almost turned to be sex though they did not engage in any penetration. Thetwo were in a situation where they had the chance to engage in sexual activities. However,Christina was not in a mutual state because she did not want to be that unfaithful lady to herpartner, but on the other hand, Gene was consenting and in need of sex.Given that they did some orals, they could not be classified as sex according to thisdefinition given by Christina. From my point of view, the problematic element from thisdefinition is that she did not acknowledge it as sex because they did not engage inpenetrations, but in essence, they were having mutual feelings for each other. They even wentahead and did some sexual activities as described by Christina in the line "Yes, that feels sogood, Yes, yes, don't stop" (Christina, 2006). Sex is meant to bring sexual pleasures andfeelings of satisfaction, but the definition does not acknowledge the fact that there are some
Surname 2people who get satisfied with sexual activities such as masturbation. Masturbation, in mostcases, will not necessarily involve two or more people but rather a personal act that bringssexual satisfaction. It does not have the element of penetration, and it involves much desires, which makes one attain satisfaction. There are also cases of masturbation which the partnerswill be engaging in hence it will not be possible to rule out masturbation as sex.
