Justin Springer 0317524 Nursing 105 10/15/07 Nurse Anesthetist Being a Nurse Anesthetist takes a lot of time, commitment, and comes with a lot of responsibilities. A Nurse Anesthetist is responsible for coming up with the right amount of drugs to give a patient before going into surgery. If a nurse performs the anesthesia, it’s looked at as “nursing”, but when a doctor performs anesthesia it is looked at as doing a medical procedure. Several duties and responsibilities come with being a Nurse Anesthetist. They provide the anesthesia when working with surgeons, anesthesiologists, dentists, podiatrists, and other healthcare professionals. They are also responsible for watching patient’s vital signs after administering the anesthesia. They also take a close look at a patient’s medical history as well as have an interview with the patient, to help the nurse determine the right “recipe” of drugs to put the patient to sleep without health risks. You can find a nurse anesthetist in a variety of different work environments:
