BASIC BADMNTON BASIC SKILLS Basic Skill: ·0 Forehand Grip - This grip is used to hit shots that are on the forehand side of your body and around the head shots. Hold the racket head with your non-playing hand so that the handle points towards you. Your racket face shall be perpendicular to the floor. Place your playing hand on the handle as if you are shaking hands with it. ·1 Backhand Grip - The basic backhand grip is used when hitting the shuttlecock in front of the body on the backhand side (left side for right-handed players, or right side for left-handed players). It is also available when a player’s back faces the net as he or she employs a backhand stroke in hitting the shuttle, which is about the right side of the body but slightly to the back. SERVE: ·2 High Serve - The High Badminton Serve This type of serve is usually executed when you want the shuttle to land at the back end of the court. A good high serve must have the shuttle dropping steeply downwards at the back end of the court. A high serve will prevent your opponent from executing a strong smash. ·3 Low Serve - The Low Badminton Serve The low serve is used when you want the shuttlecock to land in front of the court (in front of your opponent). A good low serve will have the shuttlecock flying just above the net. 3. Flick Serve - The flick serve is an extension of the low serve, but bringing your racket and shuttle forward, it changes the angle of the butt of the shuttle, resulting in the shuttle traveling a lot higher.
