Paul Burkhart Sonn y’s Blues by James Baldwin (In the top three of my favorite authors EVER!!!!!) ** Gretchen – This story was amazing!! Thank you for having us read someone I had never heard of before. It impacted me a lot. Plot – Exposition: We get thrown into the middle of the story as Sonny’s brother finds out about Sonny. We get a couple a flashbacks about Sonny, before we know what happened to him. We find out the narrator is a school teacher. We find out what happened Sonny. Then, when the school day ends, we get introduced to one of Sonny’s old friends who shines more light on Sonny’s character. The narrator goes a long time without ever contacting Sonny. Rising Action: Sonny writes a letter that spurs the narrator to visit him. They go around Harlem and reminisce. Sonny gets to his brother’s house where he meets his brother’s family. Then, in an awesome effect, we are taken to a flashback that explains the life of Sonny and his brother. We learn how their father died, and we see Sonny’s Brother make the promise to their mother. Sonny, after some fighting moves in with a friend of the family and practices his music ALL THE TIME and doesn’t go to school. He eventually runs away and joins the navy. When he comes
