Paul Burkhart Young Goodman Brown by Nathaniel Hawthorne Plot – Exposition: We are presented with the main character, Goodman Brown, and his wife, Faith. Brown is leaving to go to some appointment that his wife doesn’t want him to go to. Rising Action: This occurs when Brown meets with the traveler and they go on the path. It continues as the reader slowly gathers where they are going through the dialogue: to a meeting of the occult in the wilderness. The conflict begins when everyone that Brown respects and looks up to is found to be members of this secret cult, but everything within Brown is telling him not to do it. Turning Point: When Goodman Brown approaches Faith at the meeting and says to her, “Faith! Faith! Look up to heaven, and resist the wicked one.” Falling Action: After he says the aforementioned words to Faith, he awakes somewhere in the woods. After this, everyone treats him the very same as before the meeting. Conclusion: Goodman Brown dies a “stern, a sad, a
