CHEM-110-08Professor Durand10-31-07PRE-LAB: Using Volumetric Glassware to Measure, Dilute, and Titrate an Acid Solution [ANAL 417]I. ObjectiveIn this experiment, the fundamentals of measuring with volumetric glassware are practiced. An acidic solution of HCl is diluted and titrated with a standard NaOH solution. A neutralization reaction occurs and the molarity and volume of each the HCl and NaOH solutions become proportional. By calculation, the molarity of the undiluted HCl solution can be found. II. Safety Tips Safety goggles must be worn to prevent possible eye exposure to the HCl and NaOH solutions. Avoid contact between the chemicals used in this experiment and with skin and clothing. Never ingest or inhale any vapors from the solutions. Never use mouth suction to draw liquid or solution into a pipet.Hands should be washed before leaving laboratory.III. ProcedureThe diluted acid solution is first prepared by pipeting 10.0-mL of HCl solution
