Identification of Unknowns by Measurement of Some Physical Properties Purpose: The purpose of this experiment was to determine the physical properties of a pure unknown compound. By comparing results with our partner, we determined whether or not we possessed the same unknown. Procedure: There are three parts to this experiment. The first part is to determine the solubility of the unknown. First we added a pinch of the crystals of the unknown we were given, unknown # 14 to a small test tube with a couple of milliliters of hexane. The tube was then shook to mix up the contents as much as possible. This test was repeated again, only the next time we used water and ethanol as the solvent. The solubility of the unknown was then documented. The second part of the experiment was to determine the density of the unknown #14. First, a 1 mL volumetric flask
