Jasmine Harris Kimberly Coles Engl206 WB11 June 21, 2012 Branagh’s Production of Henry V It is said that Henry V can be read in an ambivalent fashion; that this play can be seen from both an ironic and not an ironic view point . Reading the play itself with Shakespeare’s verse Henry V, it can be read as ironic but Henry is still very appreciated and held on a high pedestal for being the best war hero Britain has ever seen . So while Henry can be seen as manipulative, it is praised and seen as necessary because he had to do what he needed to as a hero . But in Branagah’s production of Henry V, it is anything but ironic . If anything the film shows the play as a tragic rise and fall of a power hungry King . Henry V is seen as nothing but admirable and honest and I think Branagah showed him in a completely opposite light on purpose . To show the audience that while Henry was seen as perfection, he was flawed and actually an abrasive and drunk with power; The power that Henry had was just not enough .

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
