Employment Issues in Serafini2Employment Issues in SerafiniNew Brand Design, Inc. (NBD), is a subsidiary of Colossal Corporation in Serafini that isincorporated in Delaware. NBD designs, brands, and manufactures innovative electronicproducts, and then markets and distributes them for resale across the world. Recently, Elena andViktor, two of the local Serafini executives learned that their salaries and benefits packages areinferior to the other eight members of the executive board, three of which have equalqualifications and experience. They have lodged formal complaints with Human ResourcesDirector, Max Ciccone and are threatening lawsuits; thus, drastically affecting morale at theworkplace, though they continue to do their work as usual. The U.S. operations has decided toresolve the matter by sending out two more expatriates (Michael and Beth) from the U.S., withplans to terminate Elena and Viktor. When the replacement board members arrived in Serafini,the labor office refused to grant a work permit for both Beth and Michael.Ethical PerspectiveThe way in which an organization addresses complex issues as they arise from globaloperations will impact its overall success- it involves addressing unique and difficult issues ofculture and morality; ethical frameworks assist in management decisions in a cross-culturalcontext (UMGC, 2020, Cross-Cultural Ethical Business Decision Making section). Ethics canbe defined as a system of moral standards or values while ethical behavior refers to behaviorthat is generally accepted within a specific culture (UMGC, 2020, Global Business Ethicssection). With that said, from an ethical perspective there are a few alternatives to terminatingElena and Viktor. Salary discrepancies can result in animosity as well as disengagement andstrife in the workplace. Therefore, continued discord may result in termination or the resignationof Elena and Viktor. Some other alternatives to that are:
Employment Issues in Serafini3Ask what they consider to be fair pay and benefits packages and adjust theircompensation accordingly-This is the fastest way to eliminate the discord in the officeand drastically improve their job satisfaction.Increase their salary and benefits packages to the average pay of the 8 other boardmembers- By complying with their requests to improve their salary and comprehensivebenefits package, this should eliminate lawsuit the threats.Both of these options remediate to a degree the employment issues in Serafini and is likely toreduce frustrations among disgruntled employees, Elena and Viktor.
