Rahmawati (2019370049)General PsychologyAssignment 1Stanly Milgram’s Experiment ReviewThe most famous experiment by Stanly Milgram in 1974 concluded that most people willstrive to obey the rules given by the higher authority. He was motivated by the Holocausts, whichare the Nazis that deported the Jews to extermination camps. The experiment was about thepeople delivering “shock” to the unknown subject. Therefore, there are many questionable thingsfor the psychological world. Milgram’s experiment was unethical because the subject for testingand claims are not related to obedience. Baum Linde, the Psychologist at the University ofCalifornia, condemns the Milgram’s experiment because it can hurt the subject used. There arethree factors that consider as an unethical. First is deception. It is said deception because thevolunteer or the participant thinks that they were shocked by the real person. They do not realizethat the student was Milgram’s confederate. However, Milgram’s then interviewed the participantto know the effect of the deception. The result was 8.7 participants said that they were glad toinvolve in the experiment, and 1.3 % of the participant were wished that they have not beeninvolved.Second is protection of Participants. Most of the participant is stressful that can causepsychological harm. It is clearly breaking Principle A in the APA Code of Conduct which isbeneficial and nonmaleficence.
