2The Effects of Lexia Core 5 Implementation on Reading ComprehensionStarting my 2020/2021 school year virtually has been a challenge and has created many obstacles to try and overcome. A large obstacle that has become apparent is the inability to deliver reading instruction in the same way I previously have done. Many of the students entering my 5thgrade classroom, this school year, have below grade level reading skills. The need to provide differentiated instruction is crucial. Currently our students have more time in asynchronous instruction than synchronous thus establishing the need for a computerized readingintervention that differentiates based on student need. Lexia Core 5 has been purchased by our school district as a possible intervention or instructional tool. I have chosen to research this program in hopes that it is a viable resource to allow me to supplement my reading instruction while still meeting the needs of my students. The action research project allows me the forum to complete this research with the intent of meaningful, transferrable action that I can take on my part during an implementation. PurposeThe purpose of this action research project is to determine if implementing Lexia will help increase my student’s reading comprehension. “Lexia Reading is a computerized, supplementary reading software program designed for regular use, consisting of two to five weekly sessions of 20 to 30 minutes each, in a lab or classroom setting” (Institute of Education Sciences, 2009). Lexia allows for a tiered approach, and students are assigned weekly practice
