BENCHMARK- MODELS OF ABNORMALITY 2Thesis Models specifically spell out scientist’s basic assumptions to give order to what they are studying and by doing so, guidelines are set for their investigation such as which questions to ask, the information they should seek, and how to interpret the information. Overall, it influenceshow a clinician will explain and treat a specific set of symptoms their patient may be expressing. In this paper, the six different models of abnormal psychology to explain the causes and treatments for all psychological abnormalities/illnesses from different approaches. Biological Model The biological model sees physical processes as the key competent to human behavior. This biological approach to psychopathology believes that mental disorders have either an organic or physical cause (Comer & Comer, 2018). The main focuses of this approach are on genetics and evolution. Genes are segments that control particular characteristics and traits that each individual inherits. Because of this, inheritance plays a huge part in particular psychologicaldisorders. Whereas with evolution, theorists believe that genes contributing to abnormal functioning are actually the result of evolutionary principles. Though, this perspective is still controversial in the clinical field. People are biological beings, therefore one’s thoughts and feelings come from the biochemical processes throughout their brain and body (Comer & Comer,2018). To understand the components of the model, there must be a full understanding of one’s thoughts, emotions, and behavior to get to their biological basis. The model emphasizes on the relationship between a group of specific symptoms and an underlying abnormality, thus looking for certain kinds of clues when they are treating individuals who are experiencing abnormal behavior (Comer & Comer, 2018). The clinician will pinpoint the physical sources of the ‘dysfunction’ and choose a biological course of treatment. The three most leading kinds that
