By having a monopoly in many areas, Century Link has failed to provide their consumers with a system that is effective and efficient. Oak Ridge Telephone Company expanded to over 10,000 subscribers and became Century Telephone Enterprise, Inc in 1971, fifteen years before internet was invented and almost twenty years before the World Wide Web was created in 1990, (Century Link Ideas, 2019.)
