Fun Facts About Buddhism 1. The Vinaya Pitaka provides a complete way of life for monks, nuns and novices. 2. The key to this monastic way of life is to “be content with little”. They feel that the more the reject the temptations of craving, the more they will benefit from it. 3. The Buddha told his followers to “live as an island to themselves, their own resort”, which allowed them to cut social ties and to live their lives with out social distractions. 4. It was difficult to keep the religion of Buddhism continuing throughout the first century because even though the central law was founded on Buddhist scripture, it had still yet to be transcribed. This could have caused many fragments to be vacant from Buddha’s teachings. 5. Buddhist “school” are purely spiritual, consisting of monks and nuns. They have nothing to do with the secular world around them. 6. The “school” of Buddhism are really just a group of monks who had been trained in similar traditions.
