Richards II Rickie S Richards II Central Texas College African American History HIST 1328 Profile Summary 1 (Harriet Tubman) Harriet was the greatest heroine of her age who dedicated her life to help as many slaves as she can escape . She was born in a troubled, enslaved family, and her kin were separated by their slave master . As a slave and without education, she was married to Tubman, freed slave, but she feared that she would be sold to another slave master following the death of her owner . Thus, she fled to Pennsylvania, a strange land where she was not welcomed by anyone . Inspired by her religious faith, she knew she either had liberty or death . Therefore, she decided to make uncountable trips to the south to free slaves through Underground Railroad, including her relatives . She also utilized the opportunity during the Civil War to work as a nurse, cook, scout, and liberator in a base at South Carolina and devised a plan to help more than 700 slaves to freedom . She was a great abolitionist whose effort has been recognized nationally
