PHYS-1200 PHYSICS II SPRING 2006 Class 12 Activity: Electromagnetic Oscillations RESULTS In this experiment you will examine voltage oscillations of a simple LC circuit. Equipment:-- 1 inductor, inductance L = 30 mH (30 ×10-3 H)-- 2 capacitors (A and B in the box), each of capacitance C = 0.10 μ F (0.10 ×10-6 F) -- function generator -- diode-- oscilloscope-- red and black banana plug wire leads Connect the function generator directly to the oscilloscope. Do not send the signal through the white diode. Make sure that you connect the ground of the function generator to the ground of the oscilloscope and the output of the signal generator to the input of the oscilloscope. Set the function generator to produce a sine wave of about 50 Hz, and obtain a trace of the sine wave on the oscilloscope screen. This will assure that the oscilloscope is working properly. Now connect the function generator to the oscilloscope so the same 50 Hz signal passes through the white diode. Observe what happens to the sine wave....
