Any of these problems can happen in any project. However, distributed projects struggle more with problems related to the difficulty in communication. The electronic communication tools we have today are a modern miracle, but they are no substitute for the richness and immediacy of the communication that takes place at the coffee pot. This is particularly true for product development projects, where many design issues need to be continuously shared in real time, during the development process. The benefit of modern, mobile technology is that you can get project updates, problems, schedule changes, etc. from anywhere, but there is still no substitute to face-to-face contact.
