The objective of this project will be to design a fire suppression system for the Pullman/ Moscow airport using domestic water. Team Mission Assignment: Design a storage tank and pipeline distribution system capable of maintaining a minimum of 20 psi. Also utilize local elevations to increase pressure head and limit the cost of extra materials. Team Identification and Responsibilities: Mark: Water Resources, EPAnet utilization Mike: Geotechnical analysis, AutoCAD design Nick: Structural analysis, cost estimation Measures of Success: Flow at hydrants meets airport standards Tank design meets Fire Marshal’s criterion Pipes and joints withstand long term pressure Pumps are reliable and efficient Client is satisfied Boundaries Funding Limits- Controlled by Moscow-Pullman Regional Airport. Geography- Pipeline needs to be at least 200 ft from runway by FAA standards. Hydrants also need to be spaced apart no more then 300 ft. Land near airport terminal on the north side of the airport can be utilized Legal and Regulatory- Design must follow FAA, City of Pullman, Whitman County, Washington state, EPA, and local fire district standards.
