CREATING THE WORLD -for this class, we will be looking at the first three chapters of the Bible, which describe the creation of the world and events subsequent to that creative act; one of our primary interests is in seeing what image of God comes across in Genesis 1-3 -the matter is a bit complicated in that most biblical scholars believe that we actually have two different accounts of creation here that have been joined together; the reasons for this will be discussed more fully below, but for now let's see if the evidence from the text suggests that we might in fact have more than one source; if this turns out to be the case, can we say that we have two different images of God in these chapters? -scholars have traditionally located the first story in Genesis 1:1- 2:4a and the second story in Genesis 2:4a-3:24; in your first read through, keep this division in mind; as you go through and read the two sections, do they seem to be two separate accounts of creation?; why or why not? -as you read the two sections, what differences do you note
