A significant parallelbetween the protagonist and antagonist is their passion and zeal for music. Throughout the book,Salieri expresses his fondness for the craft of music. “I wantedFame. Not to deceive you, Iwanted to blaze like a comet across the firmament of Europe! Yet only in one especial way.Music! Absolute music! … A note of music is either right or wrongabsolutely! Not even timecan alter that; music is God’s art!” (Shaffer, 16). This demonstrates Salieri's devotion to musicand his aspirations to spread God’s art. However, Salieri is not alone in his fervency for music.
