Houston Scarborough 9/4/07 Prof. Gray Life Finding True Meaning In the excerpt of Fear and Trembling by Soren Kierkegaard, parallels are drawn between translations of the Biblical text and what actually is written in the Bible . Kierkegaard creates a broken down, simple story, but elaborates on key elements . The transformation from Biblical text to a somewhat storybook tale comes forward through Kierkegaard’s elaboration . Kierkegaard’s passages expand and elaborate Genesis 22, creating a bridge toward easier understanding of the passage . In the Genesis verse, Abraham shows no hostility toward Isaac once on the mountain in Moriah, however in Kierkegaard’s passage, Abraham throws Isaac to the ground and says, “it is my own desire .” (Kierkegaard 45) . Abraham’s decision to sacrifice his son was not by his own will, but due to his fear in God . The storybook version of passage one, elaborates the Biblical context and presents an entirely new perspective that Abraham was almost sacrificing his
