Lab # 11 Maternal EPD’s M – Milk (In pounds) o portions of a calf’s weaning weight attributed to milk or mothering ability o we want most of the time high milk EPD o sometimes, we want a lower milk EPD because of the environment. Limited forage environment needs to have a lower milk EPD so they can keep their maintenance. CEM – Caving ease Maternal (percentage) o predicts the ease with which a sire’s daughters will calve as first calf heifers Carcass EPD’s MB – Marbling (Fraction of marbling score) o decimal of the marbling score o Low Choice – 500 o average choice – 600 RE – Ribeye area (Square inches) o expressed in a decimal BF – Back fat (inches) o leaner the better %RP – Percent retail product (pounds) o predictor of saleable retail product o higher the number the better Ultrasound EPD’s BF – back fat (inches) RE – Ribeye area (Square inches) % PR – Percent retail product (pounds) % IMF – Percent Intramuscular fat
