MATERNAL MORTALITY 2The Impact of Maternal Mortality on Developing Countries' EconomiesIntroductionPurposeThe purpose of this study is to investigate how maternal deaths affect the economy of developing countries. Research BackgroundMaternal mortality remains a significant public health concern in developing countries. The effects of its magnitude and lower declining pattern go beyond physical pain and suffering. Maternal deaths have resulted in compromised learning, reduced returns to human capital, and constrained environments for entrepreneurial and productive activities. Thus, as Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) 5 (improving maternal health and achieving universal access to reproductive health) reflects, women's and mothers' health is fundamental to development. Motivation Although women are essential components of economic development, maternal mortalityrates are high in developing nations. Naturally, it is devastating to lack such a critical contributor to economic growth because mothers' deaths lead to social and economic crises among families and communities (Miller & Belizán, 2015). Thus, the financial burden a country faces due to maternal mortality is the motivation behind this study. Keywords:Maternal mortality, economic dependency, life expectancy, Gross Domestic Product (GDP) Research Questions By comprehensively analyzing and establishing relations between various studies related to the subject under investigations, this study will answer the following questions:
MATERNAL MORTALITY 3What is the relationship between maternal health outcomes and economic development indeveloping countries? With such relationships, what is the direction and magnitude of these relationships? What is women's contribution to economic development?Original Contribution or Value to the existing literature This study provides new evidence on how maternal mortality affects the economy of developing countries. MethodologyThe study will rely on past literature to obtain the needed data. These studies will help theresearcher establish a connection between maternal mortality and economic growth in developing countries. Literature ReviewThis section analyzes past literature on the effects of maternal deaths on different countries with different income levels. It evaluates studies that have been recently published to divulge how the subject under investigation relates to other tasks. Although the literature about the significance of maternal deaths is adequate, less attention has been given to the impacts of this global health issue on developing countries' economies. However, analyzing previous literature will help the researcher demonstrate the relevance of the proposed topic and use previous research findings to make viable conclusions and recommendations.
