1 Dalton Smith ENG-105 April 26, 2020 David Spilker Commentary Assignment on ADHD Drug Overdose/Abuse Drug overdose is becoming well-known to many families and friends today, with individuals facing these overdoses in today’s society affecting lives all over. Overdoses are not always heard of in ordinary medications, it is usually thought to be an extremely hardcore drug addiction or mistake on someone’s end unfortunately this is not always the matter. Those on many different medications are at risk of a potential overdose if they are not properly instructed how their medication is to be administered. Measures can be missed and can cause overdoses even in children today. The disorder mostly recognized in children, Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is common to be treated by medication that can cause an overdose as well. It can become extremely dangerous to a patient/care taker if they do not learn the proper doses for these children and or young adults. ADHD should be treated by medication with the proper knowledge of a given prescription drug, as well individuals needing to acknowledge what overdose is, and prevent any drug misuse. Studies have begun showing growing numbers of individuals on stimulants and non- stimulants for the treatment of ADHD. According to the Psychiatric Times, an updated study done reports 16.0 million used prescription stimulants within the past year, and 5.0 million have exploited prescription stimulants, with .4 million having a prescription stimulant use disorder
