1) Watch this TED talk and share your reactions: In all the classes I have had to watch Ted Talk, this one was my favorite. It was extremely eye opening and educational. Johann Hari does a good job apprising information about drug addicts and possible reasons for their overuse. I was extremely fascinated with the rat experiments. It makes sense though, most drug addicts (from what I know and have seen at least) are people who have no friends or family. Or they do, but not ones that genuinely care about them or their wellbeing. He also mentions something about a chemical bond. If I understood correctly, I believe he is trying to say that if people are lonely, they look to the drugs, therefore, causing “addiction”. However, he does not believe it is an addiction, he believes it is the “addicts” being reliant on the connection with the drug. Since there are no human connections in their life. The last experiment he spoke of, that had a fifty percent success rate was incredible. It was nice to see that they found a way to support the users instead of punishing them. 2) How should society respond to individuals who a) use, and b) over-use substances? Discuss your stance on decriminalization: A) The use of drugs in society will always unfortunately, have a negative effect. I believe there can be difficulties to accept any type of drug use and the problematic situations and conditions that come with them. Society can have their treatment programs, rehabs, and prescriptions to detour addicts from being users. However, the substance that they can be addicted to can have immensely powerful hooks. I strongly believe society has done everything to stop drugs from being a big problem on the streets and in schools. There will always be one thing that will carry drugs through our
