An Analysis of The Hired girls Willa Cather's “My Ántonia” is a memoir about two kids named Ántonia, and Jim who are in a little town, Black Hawk. They become family friends, until they moved apart, and finally reunite. The story shows the involvement they share along with how newly orphaned Jim and Antonia mold each other in the end. In the story, Willa Cather gives ample amounts of instances among her characters who are principally the epitome of the human spirit succeeding over adversity; specifically, the hired girls. Throughout the story, Ántonia Shimerda experienced a fair share of challenges; particularly when her father passed away. Lena Lingard was known as the troublemaker. No one around her anticipated her to become anything. With this mindset, can they think that they will accomplish anything in the future? Tiny's situation was alike Lena's when they were younger. Anxious families repetitively worried that she would be suffering with men chasing after her. None of the hired girls were given a chance to prove themselves or demonstrate to the townspeople what they were
