Lauren Michelle Bransky T, Th 12:50 PM Due: 12/10/07 “The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” Question 1: In the final chapter entitled “Henry Jekyll”s Full Statement of the Case” the battle between the two personalities within Henry Jekyll’s body finally ends. It seems that Mr. Hyde is the victor because he became the dominate personality, however, in the end he dies. Mr. Hyde emerged as the dominate force in Dr. Jekyll’s body showing the reader that the evil side of Dr. Jekyll wins over the goodness of Dr. Jekyll. I believe that Dr. Jekyll’s nature favored his evil characteristics. Dr. Jekyll’s curiosity about his evil characteristics pulled him into the battle against Mr. Hyde. His theories about man’s dual nature forced him to create a special chemical potion to play out this curiosity and thus creating another personality- Mr. Hyde. In Chapter 10, Page 104, it states, “With every day, and from both sides of my intelligence, the moral and the intellectual, I thus drew steadily nearer to the truth, by whose partial discovery. I have been doomed to such a dreadful shipwreck: that man is not truly one, but truly two. In Chapter 10, Stevenson writes that as a young man Dr. Jekyll is torn between his
