SOCY 100.79850 Week 3 Project 1Vonique JonesThe Oprah Magazine has lots of advertisements, so I chose a few to discus for myproject. Lancome Parisis on the first opening pages of this issue. The first page is the back of the cover of the magazine a full color page sized 8 ½ by 11 so it is a little heavier than its adjacent also 8 ½ by 11 color page. I think this front page was chosen to align with the season of spring. The pictures are vibrant with lilac and purple shades, promoting The Lancome product Renergie Lift Multi-Action Moisturizerpictured in a jar with an illuminating shade of ombre’ lilac and lavender, the jar looks expensive rather for the high culture. Lancome expresses their innovative ideas by advertising on the jar mentioning its advantages to use the product as, offering sunscreen, SPF15, also that it works for all skin types, to advertise the lifting and firming moisturizer, there’s two statements in bold and in a larger font describing the product “UPLIFTED SKIN, UPLIFTING MOMENTS. (Lancome Paris [Advertisement]. (2017, April).O The Oprah Magazine Rise Above,18(4), 1-1.)Living longer and looking younger can be viewed as cultural universal with having the very first advertisement in the magazine on face cream, tells me that the subculture of women takes a great deal of value in their appearance leading more towardsthe pop culture era in have younger looking skin. Women maintain a lot of roles in everyday life, and we are emotional creatures, in which we wear a lot of emotions on our face that could possibly leave lines and shows age, being apart of the looking glass self culture it speaks the dynamics of why this product was chosen to be the first advertisement to showcase, we are in the time that we not only want to look good for ourselves but we care a great deal on how others view us as well. With the inventions in skin care I see the functionalists theory here with knowing the target audience is women and their wants for appearance. Here the advertisement attracts the audience with the pictures of flowers, colors pretty models and the product packaging also showing the product itself as a smooth and succulent pastel colored cream. The next advertisement as previous is consecutively placed in the O The Oprah Magazineis Talbotsfilling the next 2 page numbers four and five with colored 8 ½ by 11 pages showing 24 different square shaped pictures of models dressed in very chic clothing in classic colors of black and white prints of, plaids, stripes, and polka dots. I see these models representing the high culture look of high waist knee length skirts, pants, jackets, and blouses it seem to me these fashion ideas ties in to the only statement on the page of “ Be your own Modern Classic.” There are splashes of yellow accessories, styles like these appeal to me as classic and chic being the new style and trend, only to really be carbon copies of the early years, it’s the same styles with inventions of adding some of the pop culture trends.
