PROTECTING YOUR INTEGRITY 2 Integrity is defined as a quality an individual possess that drives them to be honest and have strong moral principles (Weber & Grey, 2017; Miriam-Webster, n.d.). Most, if not all, workplaces view integrity as an important trait for an employee to possess. Having integrity means being true to who you are and to the environment around you. As a military veteran, we are ingrained with learning about and upholding the core values of integrity mainly because it is important to be able to trust your team when you are going into battle. We are asked to look carefully at whether or not we would want to be caught in a difficult situation with someone who does not have integrity, in other words, can you trust that they would do the right thing and have your back? We also live in a time where perceptions can be mistaken, and the truth can be swayed in favor of certain individuals. Everyone has their own definition of what integrity really looks like and one person could think someone has integrity, another person may feel differently about that same person. This can happen as a result of views and biases an individual attains through their background, personal experiences, and culture. If society has a better understanding
