Nathan Bedford Forest – publicly spoke against KKK 1871 released Ku Klux Klan Act, which allowed military force to KKK and habeas corpus allowed The KKK Act was pretty successful Main obstacle to Reconstruction was the growing indifference in North to the South o 1876 – restricts Reconstruction as an issue and doesn’t care o 1877 – ends military occupancy in South Charles Windolph – member of US Frontier Army o Attacks the Lakota and Cheyenne Indians and quickly retreats o They expected a large attack back but the Indians unexpectedly ran the other direction o “wild victory dances” of Indians over their victory against Custard Line at 100 th meridian dividing U.S into two different climates
