Unit 3 Computer Hardware/Software
INTERNAL HARDWARE COMPONENTS
:
CPU (central processing unit)- “the brain” of the computer. Sits in the motherboard. It tells the computer
what to do, how to run the software.
Random access memory (RAM)- Occurs when you turn off and on your computer. Certain amount of
memory when you are doing these functions.
Stores working data and machine code (volatile)
Hard drive- Example would be, saving something to the desk top
Motherboard- Holds different internal component such as the CPU.
BUS- is any type of external component such as type of drive or web cam. The internal component that
connects everything
Power supply- port for power source
STORAGE:
PRIMARY STORAGE- is the CPU cache which is used by the CPU to reduce from main memory. Also stores
copies of data from frequent used main memory locations. RAM is also considered primary storage,
stores working data.
SECONDARY STORAGE- Hard disk drive- is internal to PC. 2) CD/DVD- external 3) USB drives- external
SYSTEM BUS:
