Wright Mills explained what “the first fruit of this imagination” is and what it allows us to grasp. --is the idea that the individual can understand his own experience and gauge his own fate only by locating himself within his period, that he can know his own chances in life only by becoming aware of those of all individuals in his circumstances Know the difference between private troubles- the individual problem public issues- the mass amount of people and what they do about the problems I shared with you how sociology defines “life chances.” -comparing yourself to someone in a similar social position Know the difference between scientific sociology- objective, detached, non evaluated, focus on understanding laws of society reform sociology- describing, analyzing, correcting social issues, empahizes individual
