Nguyen 1 First LastExpo Writing II Professor Ian Scott Date Manic Pixie Dream Girl Says As a writer, speaker and activist in sexual assault and recovery, Olivia Gatwood has published New American Best Friendfocusing on girlhood, gender, queerness and coming of age. In the book, “Manic Pixie Dream Girl Says” seems to be the poem that stands out the most as it uses the image of Manic Pixie Dream Girl, a famous type of fictional female character, to describe the reductionist and sexist in movies. This female type usually does not have its own development because it is built to help the main character’s transformation. “Manic Pixie Dream Girl” is a phrase describing a fictional female type with craziness, who does not really act like others.
