The study of communication influenced all eras of communication beginning with the Manuscript Era around 3500 BDE, that gave way to the switch from primarily oral communication to written. The Print Era lasted from 1450 (Modern Times) to around 1850, launched in part by the invention of the printing press enabling writers to mass produced text once complete. This era launched the Audiovisual Era immediately after, introducing radio, telegraph, television, and telephone, spanning over 140 years, between 1850- 1990. (A. Schmitz) The progression of communication to electronic transmission paved the way forthe height of advancements we interact with daily. Three keyevents in the field of communication that have impacted current business practices are:1.The creation of digital code in the 1940’s led to the development of the internet. Along with the first computers, we were introduced to the World Wide Web. 2.The invention of microprocessors made housing andstoring a computer much easier, as well as, affordable. It enabled businesses to have more computers in a smaller space.3.The introduction of fiber-optics in the 1980’s enabled the transmission of larger stashes of data, making sending messages over the coverage area in a matter of seconds.These three key events have impacted current business
