What attempts were made beforehand to prevent war? The Civil War, 1861 to 1864, was a bloody war influenced by divided opinions over the ending of slavery practices. The government was encouraged to be practiced in the territories that werenot developed into states. The need for equality of all the citizens was the main concern that failed to be agreed upon between the two states; the United States of America, the Northern, which was a free state, and The Confederate States of America, southern, which was slave dominated. Abraham Lincoln, the president of the USA by that time, did everything to keep America as one state and could not recognize Southern America as independent, led by Jefferson Davies("10 Facts: What Everyone Should Know About the Civil War", 2020). In 1860, he became the president of America and had promised to end slavery in every state of America. The Southern part depended on agriculture and obtained slavery labor, yet Abraham Lincoln wanted slavery out of America. In 1863, Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation to prevent the war, when he freed the slaves from the Southern part who were initially rebels to the Northern American state. This weakened Jefferson, who depended on the support of the same slaves freed by Lincoln, hence being defeated later after the four-year-long battle that saw thousands of Americans killed.
