Unformatted text preview: tion is destroyed, the cancer will no longer spread Radiation Therapy-X Rays, focused upon the cancers site, X rays react with water in cells and disrupt DNA structure, replication, cell division Advantage - Slows tumor growth Disadvantage- also damage normal cells Chemo-drugs used to battle cancer Pro: slows tumor growth Con: can also damage normal cells (side effects) Other Chemo drugs - recall use of thalidomide and liposomal nanomedicines in cancer Adrianmycin - stops DNA from unwinding correctly which results in disruption of DNA replication and no new cancer cells. Vincristine (from the rosy periwinkle flower) Taxol - from pacific Yew Tree, both anti microtubule agents These are natural plant extracts that inhibit spindle fiber formation, which results in disruption of mitosis and no new cancer cells Possible cures?
