a. Do you think it was necessary to examine the client’s past to help her with the problem in the helping relationship? Most definitely. If you do not know the history behind someone (personality, thoughts, feelings, family, etc.) you cannot evaluate them properly. How is one supposed to know why one is afraid of the dark without knowing his or her parents used it against them as a punishment as a child? I personally believe this is not only the most important step towards helping one, but also the first step. c. In a case such as this, how much responsibility should the helper take for the miscommunication about the client’s needs? Would it have helped the client if the helper had apologized or assumed partial responsibility for the misunderstanding? This one is tough. I can understand the client being extremely indirect. However, as a professional and knowing the type of people that come into your job, I believe as a provider, you should always overthink answers. Also,
