Frankowski 1Megan FrankowskiCWV-101Professor Amanda Jenkins10/30/20Who Do You Say Jesus Is?For the first part of this essay, I am required to select one teaching of Jesus from the recommended passages in the description of this assignment. The passage I decided to write about is Matthew 5:43-48. Matthew 5:43-48 is God’s command of loving our enemies. In Matthew 5:44, it states to “love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.” Christians know that Jesus’ teaching stresses the commandment to love; and Matthew 5:43-48 proves this statement. As humans, loving our enemies is against human nature. We naturally judge and hate our enemies and try to keep our distance from them. Here Jesus challenges us to love all, even our enemies. I believe that Jesus’ point in teaching us to love our enemies is because he does not want us to act like the world. Jesus wants us to manifest a behavior that is based upon a supernatural principle of divine life. He states this in Matthew 5:48, “be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly father is perfect.”
